A: No, the thought never crossed my mind.

A: There is a guy in my hometown named Matt Richardson that has a super badass beard. He's only a few years older than me but has this cool ass 70's biker looking beard.Too bad he isn't on Facebook and I'm pretty sure he's not even aware of Beard Team USA.

A: Comfy

A: Yes I do! Not enough facial hair in the world!


* Do you feel there's any downfalls to growing beard? If so,what are they?
A: Sometimes.I love food and it can get quite messy at times. I get a little anxiety while eating out in public.

A: I don't plan on it in the near future but, may cut it one day to please my wife. :)


* What grooming techniques do you perform on your facial hair?
A: I wash it with a shampoo that has olive oil as an ingredient and condition it everyonce in a while.I brush it once daily and sometimes take Biotin a hair and nail growth supplement.Just recently gave it a hot oil treatment.


* If you have a spouse/partner; how do they feel about your choice of facial hair?
A:My wife completely hates it,but puts up with it because she loves me.

A:I've had some type of facial hair going ever since I left the military back in 1996.

A: I like that it is multi colored. I even love the grey that's coming in. Also it keeps unwanted people away.

A: I try and not let negative comments get to me. It's nice when I do get a complement.

A: Living in a semi small town I get quite a bit of odd looks and see people whispering to one another.Some kids stop dead in there tracks when I walk by and most women don't look my way lol.It's also doesn't help that my ears are stretched over an inch.

A:The fact that I have been able to grow it out as long as it is. That's a great feat in it's self.

A: If you're able to grow one, grow it out and grow it proud!!! Sometimes I feel like I'm growing mine for all the men out there that want to grow one and can't or don't because of whatever reason they my have.Beards rule!!!!!

A: Matt Bischoff. He was one of the first bearded guys I noticed when I joined the Beard Team USA a few years back. Plus he had on a Slayer shirt in his member pic. Chawesome!!!!

Why did you grow a Beard?
- After 19+years of having to shave for work, I was ready to rebel, right after I quit, I started growing my beard!

- Ideally I'd like to have a huge foot long beard, but I want it to be thick and not long and wispy, I just don't like that wispy look. I'm considering letting it grow indefinately and see what turns out.

-I used to play bubble beard in my bath when I was little, you know, scoop up bubble bath bubbles and put them on my face, I'd never stop at just a few bubbles though I always patted a bunch on my face because even then, I wanted a HUGE-ass beard!

- I think all men look better with beards, however not all men can grow a decent beard. I'm one of the lucky ones!

Do ever shave or plan on shaving your Beard in the future? If so, why?
- I trimmed my beard from a 6 1/2-7 incher in December of 2009, when I went home to GA for Christmas, I didn't want to give my Mom a heart attack lol. But I regretted doing it afterwards. I also trimmed after 5 months before my recent move to SF, because I wanted to greet my new home with a fresh look. Fortunately it's BEARD City around here!
I'm considering letting it grow again for at least ONE YEAR and see how it turns out.

What grooming techniques do you perform on your facial hair?
- Twice a week I use Bearwash Beard Shampoo and the companion Conditioner on it. It's a great product and makes my beard very soft and fluffy. I pat it dry when I get out of the shower and brush it.

What do you like most about your Beard?
- I'm starting to like the gray patch on my chin, I've disliked it since growing my beard and I've thought about dyeing the gray out many times. I still might, I dunno lol.

How do you deal with comments from friends/family/coworkers,etc?
- Most of the reaction to my beard, has been positive, although when it get's really big and bushy, some of the negative comments start, but I just laugh them off.

- Why did you grow a beard?

Well, it all started with me getting a moustache when I was but about 14 years old. People made fun of it, and so I started to shave it off. A little over 2 years ago I got a role in a play which I figured a beard would suit, so I stopped shaving while working on the play, and afterwards I realized how well it suited me, so I decided to keep it. Since then I have received many a compliment on it.

- What length or style are you going for? Is there a length you feel is too long?

Most of the time I stick with the "sea captain" style, i.e. a goatee and moustache, and shave it relatively short. I have experimented with sideburns and a full beard, specifically to avoid the hassle of having to shave my neck, but I seem to be unable to grow such a thing properly, so I stick with the "sea captain". It is the style I think looks best. I don't think a long beard would suit me, so when it comes to length I keep it pretty trimmed.

- Did you ever want to grow a beard before you were old enough?

Nope. When I was a kid, I would have laughed at the idea of a beard, and as the story of my beard shows, the beard preceded my interest in it. I like to think the beard knew I was meant to have a beard before I knew myself.

Despite the name of the group, I am very much a supporter of individuality and the idea that everyone should find the style that is right for them - even if that style is beardless. I believe the beard is in nature broadminded and nondiscriminating, even of nonbeards.

When the beard is in a transitory phase and thus not the way one wants it to be ... it can look pretty darn silly. Plus it may itch.

Since I like costumes and acting, it is sometimes required of me to shave my beard to fully assume a role, though it is something I am very much against since the beardless look makes me look like a kid. Alas, sometimes one must make sacrifices for the art. However, should the future love of my life wish me to shave, I shall do so without so much as blinking. I gladly make sacrifices for love.

-Brush regularly, if it's thick. I highly recommend jojoba oil as a leave in, I use it regularly, on the days I don't condition (never shampoo everyday, it destroys your hair!)

-  I see no downfalls in growing a beard.

- I do not plan on shaving at all.            

What grooming techniques do you perform on your facial hair?

- I shampoo & condition my beard every other day.          

If you have a spouse/partner; how do they feel about your choice of facial hair?

-   My girlfriend doesn't mind my beard, she's very supportive.       

How long have you been growing Beards?

-  I grew my first full beard when I was a sophomore in high school. I've been growing my current beard since October '09.         

What do you like most about your Beard?

-  I like the fact that I have good facial hair genes.         

How do you deal with comments from friends/family/coworkers,etc?

-  I take comments with a grain of salt. I've had some good ones & some odd looks but I think the odd looks are due to jealousy.          

Any Beard achievements, you're especially proud of?

-  I have the longest beard out of over 200 employees I work with.         

Do you have any word's of wisdom for future Beard growers?

-  My advice would be to not follow fads. Be a proud beard farmer.

- My beard idol is Burke Kenny, his beard is all encompassing, thick & full.

- many reasons, 1 being that i love the look and 2 that im too idle to shave daily.

- ive always been a fan of magnificent beards.

- i like to climb mountains and am a fan of extreme sports and most participants in these fields tend to wear some form of facial hair :-D

- back in the day film stars were only cool if they had designer stubble, i think that probably influenced me as a teen.

- oh yeah deffo, me n my mate have beard growth challenges and also tried to bring back the moustache once lol

- it might sound stupid but johnny depp... he was a clean faced superstar who took the brave choice of growing a (lets face it) not so popular with the ladies face fuzz. I admire him for choosng individualty over popularity.

 - I went to europe for two weeks during the summer after junior year of high school and never shaved while i was there. When i got back, i walked off the plane with a full beard and my mom didnt recognize me.

- im currently single, but havnt had a complaint from a lady yet. has any beardy's partner? just ask a pair of thighs. they'll agree.

- consistenly since 2004. once this 'hip to have a beard' thing ends, im screwed.

 - i like that, even though its mostly black, i have light red and gray hairs in it. its like all the colors of the rainbow. also, there's a pot of gold inside.

- man...andy williams from Every Time I Die has one of the greatest beards on a living human being or animal i've ever seen. i dont even listen or particularly like etid, but i wanna get my hands inside that beard. i almost went and saw them live a few months ago just to see it in person.

Why did you grow a Beard? 

- Honestly, I decided shaving was not for me. I don’t care what people think of my looks… so why put effort into grooming?

- Yes. I knew from an early age that I would be fully bearded… or die trying.

- I always liked early psychologists like Pavlov and philosophers like William James and Socrates.

- Lack of motivation… to shave.

- Bottom line… there is a secret that bearded men know about that others don’t… I could get in trouble for telling… but here goes. It’s called beard merit. Straight dudes will buy you beers at bars… you miraculously get backstage at concerts… bosses adore you.  A great beard is like a key to the universe.

- My girlfriend loves it. She didn’t early on… but she recognizes the Sampson-like power it gives me and she has become content in basking in its mighty shadow.

- Sported goatee as a teen… sans mustache. I would shave my upper lip and under my burns with shaving cream and razor. I got tired of that masochistic slavery.

- Beard merit for sure… seriously. And once you become a beard muse there is no end to the adoration one receives. A beard muse has the power to awaken ‘the urge’ inside any young gent that sets eyes upon his majestic overgrowth.

- I have been called Jewish, Amish, Terrorist by strangers… people who actually know me just say how much they envy me… not with words… but with the whole of their being.

- William James, farther of experimental psychology and popularizer of pragmatism, sported a mean beard. That dude just looks like a man… like if you compared a picture of him with any other dude you could instantly tell who the boss was.     -I grew my first real beard at about age 19.
